The bachelor's degree program in human resource management (HRM) is a multidisciplinary major that draws heavily from business strategy, psychology, economics, and sociology. Students will gain exposure to a broad range of HR topics, gain marketable business skills, and are taught current HR strategies by top faculty in the field with genuine interest in students' success.
The HRM undergraduate courses cover topics from the perspective of the HR professional, the manager, and the employee. The program prepares students who are interested in a career in human resource management--or hope to become managers or team leaders during their careers--with some of the issues they will have to deal with, such as staffing, motivating, and developing team members.
The School of Management and Labor Relations' Department of Human Resource Management (HRM) faculty are among the most frequently published and cited human resources (HR) faculty in the United States. Students who pursue studies in HRM will understand the relationship between HR strategy and business success while obtaining valuable skills to apply across many industries.
A course of study in human resource management is one path to understanding business that does not require a business degree. It helps prepare students interested in pursuing a master's degree in human resource management (M.H.R.M.) or the master's in business administration (M.B.A.).
The human resource management undergraduate major and minor are offered by the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR). Further details are available in the School of Management and Labor Relations section of this catalog.
